Dear ES Parents,
Happy New School Year! The Elementary School faculty and support staff at SIS would like to welcome all of our families to the new school year. We look forward to making the 2018-2019 school year the very best for all of our ES students and parents.
As ES Principal, it has been my practice to approach the academic year by identifying a school-wide theme to help anchor our initiatives and to focus our outlook as a school community. In an effort to offer a theme that resonates, I elect to link our theme to a part of our school’s vision statement, “creating a better world for all.”
I am selecting this theme “creating a better world for all” to challenge each of us to consider the ways in which we approach all of the interactions in our daily lives – in the classroom, on the playing fields, in activities, in relationships between school and community, in problem-solving, in supporting and accepting all people, in becoming engaged and involved partners – and to approach these interactions with an invigorated mindset to be positive. I respectfully call upon each of us to take a collective responsibly to find the positive energy that truly changes the world. Let us help each other find that energy in the 2018-2019 school year.
This August, we welcome several new teachers to our professional staff, coming to us with outstanding recommendations. The quality of the education we provide to students relates directly to the abilities of the people we employ. We take pride in the competence and expertise of our staff members and welcome our new teachers to our ES team. Please join with me in welcoming our new ES teachers.
• Mr. Steven Hill – 3rd Grade Teacher
• Ms. Cathy Bass – Librarian
• Ms. Jennifer Kurbel – ES/MS Counselor
• Ms. Esther Park – Learning Support
• Ms. Jodi Ramos – Maker Space
• Mr. Jordan Burt – Elementary P.E.
One of the most important components of a great school is the partnership between the school and parents who work together for the best interest of our children. You are very important in helping maintain high standards at our school. As parents, I urge you to connect with your children’s teachers at our Open House and to maintain an open, positive relationship with them as we work, in partnership, to best serve student needs.
Please come to school events and volunteer whenever possible. The more involved you are, the more meaningful the school experience will be for you and your child. All parents are considered members of the Elementary Parents Committee (EPC). The first meeting of the EPC is Monday, September 17th in the MPR at 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
There are many opportunities to help inside classrooms, on field trips, and at school celebrations. We send home important information about school events so it’s a good idea to check backpacks or search the SIS website. We also send phone SMS messages, emails and personal phone calls to all parents – so please if you change your email address or phone number let the ES office know so we can communicate with you.
Please remember to read the SIS Student Parent Handbook carefully. New students will receive hard copies of the Student Parent Handbook, and the Handbook is also on our SIS school website. To find the Student/Parent Handbook on the website: Go to the front page of the SIS website and you will see categories on the top of the page. Next, go to the category tab Our Schools and click. Then scroll down to Documents and click. There you will see the 2018-19 Student Parent Handbook.
Tuesday, August 14th ES New Parents Orientation will take place at 8:30 am in the school auditorium.
Tuesday, August 14th at 5:00 pm ES classroom assignments will be on the SIS Website.
Thursday, August 16th is our first day of school. School begins at 8:00 am and dismisses at 12:00 pm. Lunch will be provided to all ES students. Classroom assignments will be posted in the front of the school door and on our website. When students arrive they will see many Specialist Teachers and Teaching Assistants outside the building holding up signs with the word “Helpers.” These staff members will help students into the building and to their classrooms.
Monday, August 27th ES/MS Writing Prompt: Students are dismissed at 12:00 pm. Lunch will be provided to ES students.
Tuesday, September 4th is our ES Open House from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the ES Classrooms.
I close this welcome back letter by sharing with you my hope that the 2018-2019 school year shall prove itself to be a year in which positive energy and engagement fuel all that we set out to accomplish, personally and professionally. Let us work together and realize that healthy outcomes always spring from healthy and positive mindsets and creating a better world.
In the Spirit of Partnership,
