Dear ES Families.

Happy October! We have enjoyed a fabulous start to the new school year! As I take my daily walks throughout the school, I am always pleased to see the level of commitment our students bring to their daily work, and their active involvement within their class discussions. Individual, group, class assignments, and projects are well underway.

Our students have immersed themselves in all aspects of SIS life where critical thinking, hands-on learning, commitment to learning, and fun are incorporated. Saturday Boosters has 90 K-5 students participating, Grade 4/5 Sports has 41 students, After School Enrichment Classes offers 12 classes and has over 70 students participating, Tutoring, Grade 4-5 Band, Junior and Primary Choirs, Strings, and much more, provide students with a wide range of extra-curricular activities to choose from.  Our theme for this school year is to: Create a Culture with a unified approach – Together for Children.

Our ES students and staff recently demonstrated their strong school spirit during our Friday Spirit Day, where 154 staff and students wore their Tiger orange and black colors to school. We will be holding our First Tiger Assembly of the year on Friday, October 13th at 8:00 am in the main auditorium. Our enthusiastic 4th and 5th grade teachers and students will lead the Assembly.

Thank you to Ms. Diahn Hill, Mr. Adam Call, Mrs. Lucia Kim and Mrs. Tonya Gerhard and parents for parading our children dressed in their traditional Honboks around our buildings right before the start of Chuseok. Thank you to all students and parents for your generous support of our Kindergarten and 1st Grade Chuseok Parade. It’s a very nice way to start our vacation, watching all those beautiful children in their colorful dress.

Many thanks, to all parents who attended the recent EPC meeting. We hope that you found the five (5) presentations informative as we discussed the vision and safety of technology, our ES Library Web site, our ES reading and writing workshops, the ISA Tests, UNICEF and our many after-school enrichment programs. If you were unable to attend, we have scheduled three more EPC meetings for parents. They are:

Monday, November 27th at 9:00 am in the MPR

Monday, February 26th at 9:00 am in the MPR

Monday, April 23rd, at 9:00 am in the MPR

Above and beyond the many classroom learning and related activities which take place on a day-to-day basis, we look forward this month of exciting activities which include: class field trips, Parent Teacher Conferences, Halloween and more.

We appreciate the strong home and school connection that has been established at ES SIS and look forward to continuing to build on this relationship to best benefit our students.
