Dear ES Parents,
I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year. I hope you and your families had a very enjoyable holiday break. Welcome back to all our returning learners and their families and welcome to all our new learners. I have been really impressed with how well the new children have settled into the school and become part of the SIS community.
We had a great first semester and we look forward to an exciting second semester. The start of a new year is a perfect time to think about setting new goals and reflecting on the past year, which puts positive change in motion. As we begin our new year, I am excited to think about the growth that we are seeing in our students from the beginning of the year. This growth appears in many different ways: academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. We also are in awe of the growth we see in our students as we build character and service learning traits in our students. Students are reflecting on their report card grades and setting new goals. The staff will be reviewing their own professional goals. I am personally thinking of ways to make the SIS learning environment stronger, healthier, and more engaging than ever.
December was a very busy month with holiday celebrations and events. We held an ES winter musical concert, hosted a Sing-a-long for our students and had winter parties. We also had many service learning projects. We donated more than 1,000 books to needy children. And we helped Anna’s House, a local Kitchen that feeds over 500 people a day, with our fund raisers and baked goods sales. We also continue with our Tiger Traits:
Socially responsible individuals
Reminder: Please make sure that all items brought to school are labeled with your child’s full name and class so they can be returned if lost. It is particularly important to label water bottles, food containers, caps, hats, musical instruments and backpacks as these are the most common items that are misplaced.
Parents mark your calendars: ES Swim Boosters starts this Saturday, January. Our Battle of the Books for 4th and 5th grades starts Wednesday, January 19th after school in the Library. This year Lunar New Year arrives early. No school on Friday, January 27th and Monday, January 30th.
We will be holding our Elementary Parents Committee (EPC) meeting on February 27th. Information will be given about the ISA assessment results. This informational event will be an interactive opportunity to listen and ask questions.
