Dear ES Parents,

We have successfully completed the start of the school year! I can tell that this is going to be an exciting and engaging year of learning for our children. The new teachers we employed are highly-qualified and motivated individuals. The quality of education we provide to students relates directly to the abilities of the people we employ.

Next Monday, Aug. 24th is early dismissal for students (noon dismissal). Our teachers will be at school for a day filled with writing prompt’s authentic scoring assessments. Parents our writing program is essential for the success of our students.

Our Elementary Open House will be held on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. All parents are invited to meet your child’s teacher and learn about the curriculum. Please join us in your child’s classroom at 6:00 PM. There will be two presentations in classrooms to accommodate siblings in other grade levels. Presentations will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. This will allow parents with multiple children to attend more than one presentation or visit with our Art, Library Media Specialist, PE, Reading, Language Support and Music teachers. The Open House Schedule is as follows:

• 6:00 p.m. – 6:55 p.m. First Presentation by teachers in classrooms
• 7:00 p.m. – 7:55 p.m. Second Presentation by teachers in classrooms

Open house will end at 8:00 pm. We recommend that you make a separate appointment with your child’s teacher to discuss individual student progress.

Note from the nurse:

As it is our school’s obligation to protect the health of our students, we ask that you please keep your child at home if he/she exhibits any contagious type symptoms such as coughing, high fever, rash, nausea or vomiting. Medication can be brought to school if it is essential to the health of the student. Please include a note marked with the student’s name, correct dosage, and parent signature. If a child is sick or has a fever they will not be permitted to ride the bus home. Parents or a driver must pick up the sick child from school (ES children cannot take a taxi by themselves if they are sick). Thank you for your cooperation in the matter.

Phone calls regarding after school arrangements:

Please be sure to schedule in advance any changes you may have in your child’s after school arrangements with your child’s classroom teacher through a note or email. Last minute changes can result in confusion and children being left waiting in the ES Office. If an emergency does arise and you must call the school to advise us of a change, please do so before 2:00 pm. After that time, it is often too late in the day to assure your request can be communicated appropriately and safety is assured. We look forward to seeing you Tuesday, Sept. 1st at 6:00 p.m.

Best regards,
Mr. Art DeFilippo
SIS Elementary School Principal
